AppleSox ace Owen Jones has been named a summer collegiate baseball First Team All-American by Perfect Game CrossChecker. Only four pitchers in the country were named to the All-American First Team.
The University of Portland junior went 7-1 with a 2.00 ERA for the AppleSox this summer. Jones etched his name in the West Coast League record books, setting a new WCL record for wins in a single season.
Jones previously played in Wenatchee after his freshman year in 2008. He was one of the most consistent pitchers for the AppleSox in 2008, being named All-WCL honorable mention and helping the team reach the WCL Championship Series. He went 3-3 with a 2.72 ERA, the lowest on the team for a starter that season.
Jones was the only WCL player named to the All-American team. However, Corvallis Knights pitcher Jace Fry (Oregon State) was honored as the top rising freshman in summer collegiate baseball.
