5 AppleSox players from the 2013 campaign have been awarded for their excellence in the West Coast League this season. It may have been a season filled with ups and downs for the AppleSox but these players helped to bring a level of consistency to Wenatchee, and ultimately resulted in a North Division Pennant.
Connor Spencer (UC Irvine) was selected to the All-WCL First Team. The AppleSox first baseman compiled one of the most successful seasons in AppleSox history, and made serious run at the league MVP title. The UCI star became accustomed to having big nights for the AppleSox this season. Four times Spencer had a 4-hit night, and even went 5 for 5 one evening against Medford. Spencer led the AppleSox in runs batted in, batting average, and hits. The sluggers .380 average was 2nd best in the league behind the eventual MVP Alex Calbick’s (Bellingham Bells) mark of .384. Just when it looked like Spencer had found his limits the postseason rolled around allowing Connor to hit the next gear. Over the duration of the AppleSox 4-game playoff run Spencer hammered out a .538 average by going 7 for 13 with 2 runs batted in. The All-Star was shown some respect in the playoffs when he was walked twice intentionally to load the bases.
