Ames flourished with the AppleSox in 2010 when he converted to the closer role in early July. He ended the season with nine saves, including three in the playoffs. He did not allow a run in league play throughout July and August. He was previously recognized by Baseball America in the fall when he was named the #3 prospect in the West Coast League. He was the only relief pitcher to earn All-WCL First Team honors. The sophomore was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 30th round of the 2010 MLB Draft, but elected to return to Lower Columbia College and work with AppleSox and LCC pitching coach Rob Hippi for another season.
