Husky Hurlers Set to Join the AppleSox PDF Print E-mail

UW_Website_GraphicThe University of Washington will provide a pair of arms to the AppleSox pitching staff in 2012. The Huskies are sending right-handed pitcher Aaron West and right-handed pitcher Tyler Kane to spend their summer in Wenatchee.

“During my time with the AppleSox we have had a lot of University of Washington players on the team,” said AppleSox head coach Ed Knaggs. “Last season was one rare years when we didn’t have any Huskies and it is exciting to have a couple of strong arms coming our way this summer.”

West had an outstanding summer campaign in 2011. The Snohomish native was named the Far West League’s top prospect after going 7-0 with a 0.17 ERA for the Humboldt Crabs. This season as a junior he is one of the University of Washington’s top starters with a 1-0 record and a 0.82 ERA.

“After tearing it up last summer he has kept that momentum coming into the school season,” said Knaggs.

Last season Kane led the Huskies in appearances, pitching in 25 games as only a freshman. Originally from Mill Creek, the sophomore spent last summer in New York with the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League where he 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA.

“He has some arm issues earlier in year, but he has already seen action this season,” said Knaggs. “It is especially nice with both guys that will be coming to us already with a good amount of collegiate experience under their belt.”

The AppleSox open the 2012 season on the road against the Bellingham Bells on June 1st. The team will return to Paul Thomas Sr. Field to start a six-game homestand beginning with the home opener on June 5th against the Bend Elks.
