Wenatchee AppleSox Baseball Club

The AppleSox organization bids a fond farewell to one of its own, Chris King, who is moving to Idaho to take a position with Boise State University, calling women’s basketball games and filling in during some men’s games as well.

King started with the AppleSox as the team’s radio announcer in 2008, while he was still attending Washington State University. After graduating from the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at WSU in 2009 he came back to Wenatchee and began working for the AppleSox full time.

In addition to being the “voice of the AppleSox” for three seasons, King also served as the team’s communications director and in sponsor sales.

Affable, talented and diligent Chris made many good impressions while he was here. And here are just a few of the things people had to say about him:

Owner Jim Corcoran: “Chris reminds me a lot of myself when I was his age. We both graduated from the same broadcasting program at WSU and went in to the world with lots of energy and enthusiasm. We will miss Chris a great deal. But there is a deep reward in watching great young talent come through the AppleSox organization, whether they are players or broadcasters. We wish him the best.”

Bruce Bennett, team statistician: “I love sitting next to him. He does such incredible research, not only on our team but also on the opposing team’s roster, it was also an education listening to him call a game.”

Brian Adamowsky, Wenatchee World sports reporter: “Chris tells you what’s happening in such a way that you feel like you’re really there. He was so on top of everything.”

A search is presently underway for a seasonal radio play-by-play announcer, and a sponsor sales position that would create a year-round position, to replace Chris in 2012.
