“It is always nice to be recognized. The award is a reflection on the whole AppleSox organization from our owners, players, coaches, fans, and host families,” said Knaggs. AppleSox pitching coach Rob Hippi was also in attendance as he was a featured speaker at the convention. “The AppleSox program had an outstanding season culminating with the West Coast League championship and are very deserving of the recognition we gave at the luncheon,” said event organizer and former Lewis & Clark College head baseball coach Jerry Gatto. The convention is an annual gathering of baseball coaches from Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Over 400 coaches attend the event representing high school, college, and summer collegiate programs. Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge was a special guest and spoke at the luncheon.
