|AppleSox Fall In Game 1 – Team Back Home Tonight|
Though the AppleSox drew first blood in Walla Walla Friday night they struggled through the next few innings, giving up nine runs in all and eventually the win to the Walla Walla Sweets in the first game of the WCL divisional playoffs.
A disastrous third inning saw an AppleSox error and four consective base hits for Walla Walla as the Sweets capitalized with four runs during that inning.
The AppleSox saw a glimmer of hope at the top of the sixth as Adam Nelbowich hit a high fly ball deep into right field but the hopes of a two-run homer were dashed as Sweets right fielder Chance Kopacz snagged that ball at the warning track.
Normally a pitcher who stays ahead of the count, Alex Phillips struggled to locate and was replaced by Aaron Brooks after the fourth. Brooks gave up three runs in two innings of work. Sweets starter Ryan Richardson gave up four runs in his seven plus innings of work on his way to the victory.
The AppleSox rallied for three runs in the top of the eighth but could not take the lead. The final score was 9-4 as the AppleSox fell to the Walla Walla Sweets in their first game of the best of three-game divisional playoff series. The AppleSox will face the Sweets again for game two in Wenatchee Saturday night. The AppleSox must win to force a third game of the series, which if needed will take place at Paul Thomas Sr. Field in Wenatchee Sunday night at 7:05 pm.
