Sox Sprinting to Hot Start, Look to Continue vs. Gems PDF Print E-mail

kfalls

After two non-league contests against the Central Oregon Bucks, the Wenatchee AppleSox are back in West Coast League competition tonight as they square off against Klamath Falls at 7:05.

The Sox (12-3) currently sit atop the WCL’s East Division by one game over the Bellingham Bells (12-5) and debuted at No. 6 in Perfect Game USA’s poll of the top collegiate summer league baseball teams. Klamath Falls (2-13) is still trying to get their season on track. Both Gems wins, ironically, came against Bellingham.

This is the second series between the two squads this season. The AppleSox swept Klamath Falls in Oregon last week.

Wenatchee has been no stranger to offensive fireworks over the last few games. Although not counted in the scorebooks or season standings, the Sox outscored Central Oregon 23-6 in two games - both of which were wins. AppleSox third baseman Mitchell Gunsolus had two two-RBI triples vs. the Bucks in last night’s contest.

Lawrence Chew will toe the rubber tonight for the Sox – his second start of the season. Chew currently has a 0.69 ERA and only sits behind Derek Callahan (0.53 ERA) for the best ERA in the WCL. Chew has thrown 13.0 innings for the Sox this season, striking out 15 while only issuing four walks.

Tonight is game one of the three game set. The gates at Paul Thomas, Sr. Baseball Stadium open one hour prior to game time.
