AppleSox Skipper Earns Coach of the Year Award

Knaggs_Coach_of_the_Year(9/8/10)-Fresh off of leading Wenatchee to their second straight West Coast League Championship, AppleSox head coach Ed Knaggs has been named the WCL Coach of the Year.

It is the second consecutive year Knaggs has earned the honor, after being named co-Coach of the Year in 2009. He also received the award in 2005.

Six AppleSox Named to All-WCL First-Team

(All_WCL_Teams8/30/10)-Seven key members of the 2010 Wenatchee AppleSox championship team earned All-WCL honors. West Coast League President Ken Wilson announced the 2010 All-WCL teams as voted on by member head coaches. The AppleSox led the West Coast League with six players named to the All-WCL First-Team. The team also had one player named to the All-WCL Second-Team.

First baseman Eric Peterson of Washington, third baseman Clayton Eslick of Gonzaga, utility man Trevor Brown of UCLA, outfielder Collin Bennett of Hawaii, starting pitcher Marco Gonzales of Gonzaga, and relief pitcher Jeff Ames of Lower Columbia College were named to the All-WCL First-Team. Starting pitcher Michael McIver of St. Martins was named to the All-WCL Second-Team.

AppleSox Earn National Ranking

AppleSox_Ranking(8-24-10)-The AppleSox have earned national recognition after winning their second straight West Coast League Championship. The final rankings of the top 30 summer league teams for 2010 from PG CrossChecker had the AppleSox as the No. 17th ranked team in the country.

It is the second straight summer that the AppleSox earned a top 30 ranking from PG CrossChecker at the end of the season. The AppleSox improved upon their ranking last season when they finished ranked 25th in the country.

AppleSox Win 2010 WCL Championship

Website-Champ_Trophey(8/18/10)- The Wenatchee AppleSox beat the Bend Elks last night 6-5 to capture the 2010 West Coast League Championship. Zach Gallagher got the win and Jeff Ames picked up the save, while Kalei Hanawahine came through with a huge three-run homer to tie the game at 5-5. It's the AppleSox second straight WCL Championship and fourth in the last six years.

Thank you to the best fans in the West Coast League for another great season!

WCL Championship Series Comes to Wenatchee

Wen-Bend_Championship(8/16/10)-The AppleSox return home Monday night to try to capture the 2010 West Coast League Championship. After winning game one of the series in Bend 4-2, the AppleSox have a chance to win the title in front of their home fans in the best-of-three game series. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm and fans can buy tickets online now by clicking here or before the game at the gate when doors open at 6:00 pm. If game three is necessary, it will be Tuesday night in Wenatchee at 7:05 pm.

The AppleSox will send lefty Marco Gonzales to the hill. The Gonzaga recruit fresh out of high school has a 6-1 record this summer and led the West Coast League in strikeouts during the regular season. The Elks will counter with another lefty Ben Guidos. The junior from the University of Washington is 3-2 and led the West Coast League in complete games with three.

“Christmas in August” Food Drive a Huge Success

A-Sox-Salvation_Army_2(8/16/10)- Thank you to all the fans who made the “Christmas in August” food drive at the August 11th home playoff game a wonderful event. AppleSox fans raised over $1200 and brought in over 750 pounds of food to help the local Salvation Army to fill up their nearly bare pantries.

Bell ringers from the Salvation Army were on hand to make to give the food drive an authentic “Christmas in August” feel. Christmas music was even played throughout the ballpark during the game. Thank you to everyone who made this event a success.

AppleSox Begin WCL Championship in Bend

ASOX_vx_Bend_Championshop(8/14/10)-The AppleSox start the West Coast League Championship tonight in Bend against the Elks. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm in game one of this best-of-three game series. Wenatchee will send Michael McIver to the hill for his fourth start against the Elks tonight. Bend will counter with Nick Stiltner, a right-hander from Oregon State University.

Fans can catch all the action from Bend with AppleSox radio broadcaster Chris King on 560 KPQ or online through www.kpq.com. Pregame coverage begins at 6:20 pm.

AppleSox Advance to WCL Championship Series

WCL_Championship_Series(8/12/10)-The defending West Coast League Champions are heading back to the WCL Championship Series. The AppleSox swept the Kelowna Falcons in the first round of the playoffs and will move on to their third straight WCL Championship Series appearance. The AppleSox opponent will be the Bend Elks, who swept the Corvallis Knights in the West Division Playoffs. The AppleSox and the Elks split the season series, going 3-3 against each other.

The AppleSox will have home field advantage in the series. Game one will be in Bend on Saturday, August 14th. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm and AppleSox fans can catch all the action on 560 KPQ or online on www.kpq.com. The series will then move back to Wenatchee on Monday, August 16th for game two. If necessary, game three will be in Wenatchee on Tuesday, August 17th. First pitch for game two and if necessary game three is at 7:05 pm. Tickets for game two are now available online and can be purchased by clicking here.
