Wenatchee Kicks Off the Postseason With a Bang

After finishing the regular season with the best record in the WCL, the Wenatchee AppleSox entered the postseason looking to prove why they were the first seed in the North Division. They did just that, shutting out the Kelowna Falcons 9-0 in game one of the WCL North Divisional Series. 

The ‘Sox got ahead early and never looked back. They tallied two runs in the first and fifth innings, then broke the game open with five runs in the seventh after batting through the entire order.

Raphael Dunne was a key part of the AppleSox’s bats in game one. The San Diego native went 3-5, scoring twice and recording two doubles to lead his squad to victory.

However, the real story Friday night was the ‘Sox’s pitching staff, as they kept the Falcons off the board all night and held them to a mere six hits. Mitch Haythorn took the bump first and picked up his fifth win of the season after tossing six scoreless innings, walking none, and punching out six. Joe Thornton followed him up with a three-up, three-down inning in the seventh.

Finally, Wenatchee native Joe Schuyleman closed out the ball game and allowed only two hits while striking out one.

The victory tees the AppleSox up for a potential series win on Saturday. If the ‘Sox win, they’ll get a day off Sunday and advance to the North Division Championship Game.

Wenatchee returns to Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium for game two of the series. First pitch is slotted at 6:35 p.m.
