Series Loss For Wenatchee

The Wenatchee AppleSox lose their 2nd series in a row after a 12-3 loss in game 2 of a 3-game series to the Kelowna Falcons. 

In the top of the 7th, Phillip Cheong knocked in the AppleSox’s first run making it 12-1. They added another run by an RBI single from Camden Bates to decrease the deficit to 12-2. Ethan Thomas wrapped up the scoring with another RBI single ending the game at 12-3. 

Karsten Sweum started the game tossing 1 inning with 2 hits, 3 unearned runs, and 3 walks. Aidan Gonzalez, Aaron Platner, and Owen Firestone came in relief; in total, throwing 5 innings with 6 earned runs, 9 hits, and 4 walks. Christian Garcia closed the game, taking the loss, with 2 innings, 3 hits and 0 runs. 

The AppleSox bullpen only earned 6 of the 12 runs, the rest coming off the defense’s 5 errors. 

The ‘Sox struggled to bring base-runners across, leaving 12 men on base. 

With Saturday’s loss, Wenatchee (0-2) falls to last place in the North Division. 

The AppleSox look to end the series off with a win before their next set of games against Kamloops. 

'Sox Fall To Kelowna

The Wenatchee AppleSox fall 7-4 in game 1 of a 3-game series to the Kelowna Falcons. 

Joe Thornton (2-2) played great, getting on base all 4 times he was up to bat. Cade Martinez (2-4) also was a contributor reaching on base 3-5 times. 

In the top of the 2nd, the ‘Sox opened their scoring with a single by Jacob Croxford to bring home Kyle Panganiban, tying the game at 1-1.

Wenatchee took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 3rd when Jake Sanko (1-3) scored from a sac fly by Adam Haight (0-1). 

The AppleSox added on 2 more runs on top of their lead making it a 4-2 ballgame in the top of the 6th. Jake Sanko hit a sac fly to score Ethan Thomas (1-4) and Jacob Croxford (1-4) finished their scoring after reaching home on a wild pitch by Arlo Pendleton. 

Wenatchee’s bats struggled after the 6th, not earning a single run the rest of the game.

The ‘Sox’s starter Gunner Penzkover pitched well despite the loss, tossing 7 innings while only giving up 2 runs, with 5 hits, and 5 strikeouts. 

David Barnes earned the loss tonight after coming in relief, throwing 1 inning with 5 hits, 5 runs, and a walk. 

With Friday’s loss, the AppleSox are tied with the Nanaimo NightOwls for last place in the North Division. 

Wenatchee looks to bounce back Saturday night for game 2. 

AppleSox Beat Redmond on Fireworks Night

Wenatchee defeats the Redmond Dudes 11-2 in non-league action Thursday evening. 

Adam Haight, brother of former AppleSox player Andrew, went 2-5 in his debut. Ethan Thomas went 3-4 with a double and three RBI. Cade Martinez went 2-3 with a double and an RBI.

Joe Schuyleman earned the win giving up two runs on four hits with two strikeouts over two innings of work. He relieved Luke Sterkel who tossed four scoreless innings giving up just a hit and a walk with five strikeouts. 

The ‘Sox got on the board in the first with a double by Martinez. He took third and scored on a wild pitch, Thomas brought home Haight for a 2-0 score. 

Wenatchee scored three more in the 2nd, highlighted by a two-run Thomas single. The ‘Sox had two more scored in the third, and four in the eighth. 

Wenatchee begins the second half on the road with a visit to the Kelowna Falcons at 6:35 p.m. before returning home for a three-game series against the Kamloops Northpaws Tuesday July 8-10. 

'Sox Get Swept; Head Home For Fireworks Night

The Kamloops NorthPaws received a 6-3 win to earn a series sweep to close off the 3-game series. 

Jake Sanko (2-5) was a standout, bringing 2 of the AppleSox’s 3 runs across. Cade Martinez also played well despite the loss going 1-3 but reaching 3 out of 5 times with 2 walks and a single. 

In the top of the 2nd, the ‘Sox opened their scoring with a single by Kanoa Morisaki to bring home Jacob Croxford and to get his first RBI of the summer. Morisaki was later batted in by Jake Sanko to earn a 2-0 lead. 

The ‘Sox added on to their lead by another RBI single in the top of 4th from Jake Sanko to score Camden Bates giving the AppleSox a 3-2 lead. 

Wenatchee’s bats struggled after their early lead, not earning a single run the rest of the game.

In the bottom of the 8th, Carson Boesel came in to close the game, walking his 1st batter then giving up 2 straight singles to load the bases. Kalen Applefield then proceeded to hit a grand slam to secure a 6-3 win. 

Easton Brooks started the night throwing 4 innings with 5 hits, 2 runs, and 4 strikeouts. In relief, Joe Thornton pitched lights out, only giving up 1 hit with 3 strikeouts in 2 innings. Carson Boesel earned the loss, tossing 1 inning with 4 hits and 3 earned runs. 

With Wednesday’s loss, the AppleSox are on a 3 game losing streak heading into the Second Half. 

Wenatchee looks to break the losing streak on Thursday night for Firework Night. 

Wenatchee Gets Walked Off By Kamloops

The AppleSox got walked off in a 1-0 loss to the NorthPaws in the 2nd game of a 3-game series on Tuesday night. 

The AppleSox struggled to get the bats going, finally picking up their 1st base hit in the top of the 5th by Jacob Croxford (1-3).

In the top of the 8th, Wenatchee had bases loaded with Camden Bates (1-4), Kanoa Morisaki (0-4), and Cade Martinez (1-3) all aboard. However, 2 quick outs by JeeHee Lee and Kyle Panganiban ended the AppleSox’s inning and their chance to score. 

Despite their struggles at the plate, the ‘Sox’s starter Alec Ammerman pitched excellently, tossing 7 innings. Ammerman retired 9 in a row and pitched a no-hitter until the 4th. He finished the day with 3 hits, no runs, and 2 strikeouts. 

Gunner Penzkover came in to close the 9th, walking his 2nd batter faced, Conner Clark. Clark later advanced to 2nd by a wild pitch and was scored by Brendan Burke to walk it off. 

With Tuesday’s loss, the Applesox eliminated their chance to clinch the First Half and the playoff bid. 

The ‘Sox looked to finish the series off with a win Wednesday night before they head back home. 

'Sox Get Cold After Series Sweep

The Wenatchee AppleSox take a 5-4 loss to the Kamloops NorthPaws in the opening game of a 3-game series. 

Mitch Haythorn pitched lights out, only giving up 1 run, retiring 10 in a row with a no-hitter going into the bottom of the 5th inning. 

The ‘Sox struggled at the plate, only having 7 hits. Kyle Panganiban was a standout, although going 1-5, he brought the majority of Wenatchee’s run across with a 3-run homer. 

In the top of the 3rd, Kanoa Morisaki (0-2) led off the frame with a walk and was later advanced to second by a single from Jacob Croxford (1-5). Kyle Panganiban brought them home with a 3-run shot to give the AppleSox a 3-0 lead. 

The NorthPaws then took the lead in the bottom of the 7th by a 3 RBI triple from Tanner Hornback. 

Wenatchee didn’t score again until the top of the 8th, when Ethan Thomas (1-5) scored from a double by Cade Martinez (2-3) to make the score 5-4. But the ‘Sox went 3-up 3-down in the ninth to give the NorthPaws the win. 

Mason Swan earned the loss pitching 1 inning with 4 hits, 4 runs, and 3 walks. 

The AppleSox can still clinch first place in the North Division and the playoffs with a win Tuesday, and Wednesday night.  

Wenatchee looks for the win Tuesday in hopes for playoff chances.

Wenatchee Sweeps Victoria; Two Wins Away from Playoff Bid

AppleSox sweep the Victoria HarborCats with a 6-5 win Sunday evening. 

Camden Bates knocked in two runs in the bottom of the 3rd to give the AppleSox a 3-1 lead, while Davis D’Errico walked home a run to extend the advantage to 4-1. Ethan Thomas went deep in the 4th with a two-run home run to give the ‘Sox a 6-3 lead.

Victoria(12-14)  narrowed the gap with a two-run homer in the 7th, but Joe Thornton earned his second save retiring six of the last seven batters he faced to shut the door. Max Mendes earned his third win after dealing five innings giving up three runs on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Jace Taylor earned a hold out of the ‘pen tossing one-and-two-thirds scoreless giving up two runs on three hits with a walk and three punchouts. 

Wenatchee (16-8) took game two in walkoff fashion 5-4 Saturday and beat the ‘Cats 10-6 Friday. 

With a Bellingham win Sunday, the AppleSox must win two of the next three games against the Kamloops NorthPaws on the road to clinch the First Half and earn a playoff bid. Two wins would give the ‘Sox the tiebreaker due to the series win in Bellingham last week. 

The ‘Sox take on Kamloops Monday through Wednesday for a three-game set.

'Sox Walk It Off 5-4

Kyle Ponganiban and the AppleSox walk-off the HarborCats to take game two 5-4. 

Wenatchee (15-8) went 14-up and 14-down from the 3rd through the 7th inning in a 4-1 game, but fought back in the 8th inning with a JeeHee Lee (2-4, HR, RBI) home run to bring the ‘Sox back to life. 

Ponganiban (1-4, RBI) singled right after, while Ethan Thomas (1-4) singled to follow. Jake Sanko (2-3, 2B, RBI) walked, while Noah Fields (0-3, RBI) walked home a run. Camden Bates (0-3, RBI) brought home the tying run. 

In the bottom of the 9th, Jacob Croxford (1-3) led off the frame with a single. Lee got hit by a pitch, and both runners stole their respective bases to put runners on at 2nd and 3rd. That’s when Ponganiban popped up to shallow center, where the shortstop made the catch and delivered a late throw to score Croxford and give the ‘Sox the win.

Trevor Young earned the victory tossing two scoreless innings in relief. 

Wenatchee still has four games left in the first half, while Bellingham only has one. With a Bellingham win Sunday, Wenatchee must win three of their final four games. With a Bellingham loss Sunday, the ‘Sox only need to win two of their next four games.

AppleSox Open Homestand with 10-6 Win Over 'Cats

Carson Boesel turns in an electric performance in relief, while Jake Sanko homers for the first time in a 10-6 win over Victoria in the opening game of a three-game set Friday night. 

Sanko went 1-3, while Ethan Thomas went 2-5 with a double and an RBI. Kaden Smith turned in a big two-run single in the bottom of the 6th to give the AppleSox (14-8) some cushion. 

Wenatchee jumped out to a 5-0 lead after Sanko’s leadoff home run in the 2nd inning, with a RBI single by Davis D’Errico (1-3, RBI) and a two-run single by Theo Kim. 

Victoria took the lead away after scoring once in the 3rd, three runs in the 4th, and two in the 5th. The Sox re-took the lead with a pair of runs on a sacrifice fly by Cade Martinez (1-2, RBI, R)  and the two-run Smith single (1-2, 2 RBI, R).

Boesel tossed 4.2 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts, while only allowing two hits and two walks. David Barnes threw two scoreless innings to open up the ballgame giving up just a hit with two walks, but he struck out three batters. 

Wenatchee keeps pace with Bellingham who defeated Kamloops Friday evening. The ‘Sox are a half-game behind the Bells for first place in the West Coast League North standings. 

The AppleSox look for a series win over the HarborCats Saturday.

Wenatchee Upsets Bellingham

The Wenatchee Applesox closed the 3 game series with a 3-2 win against the Bellingham Bells to take their first series win in 15 years at Bellingham. 

Kyle Panganiban went 2-5 with a home run, double. Theo Kim also was a big contributor going 1-4 with an RBI single. 

Alec Ammerman started the game throwing 3 innings with 6 hits, 2 runs, and 3 walks. Joe Thorton came in for relief and pitched 2, no hit, no run innings. 

In the top of the 1st, Kyle Panganiban hit a solo shot to left field to open the evening’s scoring. They added another run in the top of the 5th by a sac fly from Jacob Croxford to score Kanoa Morisaki. 

The ‘Sox gained a 3-2 lead in top of the 6th from an RBI single from Theo Kim to score Kyle Panganiban and to end the night’s scoring. 

Easton Brooks earned the win throwing 4 innings only giving up 4 hits with 0 runs and 4 strikeouts.

The win tonight brings the Applesox to second place with a 13-8 record.

Wenatchee looks to stay hot on Friday as Victoria comes to town for a three game series.

Wenatchee Falls 15-2 To Bellingham

The Wenatchee Applesox suffered a 15-2 loss to the Bellingham Bells in the 2nd game of the 3 game series.

In the top of the 8th, Quincy Malbrough pinch hit and brought the Applesox’s 2nd hit of the evening. A triple by Nate Gray Jr. scored Malbrough to bring the ‘Sox first run across. Gray Jr. was later batted in to close their scoring when Kyle Panganiban reached first on an error. 

Luke Sterkel received the loss giving up 8 hits and 3 runs through 3 innings. 

Wenatchee utilized 5 pitchers in the loss. In total they gave up 15 hits, 12 walks, and earned 9 of the 15 runs. 

With their 12-8 record the Applesox are now 1.5 games back behind the Bells. 

Wenatchee looks for redemption and the series win Thursday night against Bellingham. 

Applesox Heat Up in Game 1

The Wenatchee Applesox took a 8-3 win against the Bellingham Bells tonight at Joe Martin Field. 

Mitch Haythorn earned the win tonight, pitching 5 innings while giving up 5 hits, 3 walks, 2 runs, and earning 4 strikeouts. Ethan Thomas went 3-5 with an RBI single to open the scoring on the night. Theo Kim also was a big contributor going 2-3, with a triple, double, and 2 walks. 

The Bells crawled back until the top of the 9th when the ‘Sox scored 4 times with 5 hits in a row to secure the win. 

Bellingham utilized 5 pitchers tonight in the loss. The Bells finished the night with 2 errors, 7 hits, and 8 men left on base. 

The Applesox are still in third place with a 12-7 record. The BellinghamBells hold onto 1st place but only leading by .5 a game. 

Wenatchee looks to stay hot tomorrow and Thursday night to secure the series win against Bellingham. 

'Sox Stumble in Weekend Series

Wenatchee suffers a series sweep at the hands of Edmonton over the weekend after Sunday’s 6-5 loss.

The AppleSox (11-7) struggled to get the bats rolling all weekend as they dropped game one by a score of 2-0, and game two by a score of 5-2. 

Starting pitcher Blake Sandvik tossed 4.1 innings scoreless in his Friday start giving up just one hit while striking out five. Trevor Young and Aiden Gonzalez shined for a combined four scoreless innings in game two, while Max Mendes went 3.1 innings scoreless in his start Sunday.  

Jee Hee Lee went a combined 3-6 with three RBI for the ‘Sox in two games. Kyle Panganiban went a combined 5-13 with two RBI in three games

Wenatchee falls to second place in the West Coast League standings trailing the Bellingham Bells by one-and-a-half games after a 5-4 loss to Marion Sunday. 

The ‘Sox have a chance to make up some ground on the Bells this week with a three-game road trip to Bellingham Tuesday through Thursday. Wenatchee returns home Friday to host Victoria for a three-game home stand. Tickets at applesox.com, or at the box office.

AppleSox Fall 5-3 to Dub Sea; Begin 6-Game Road Trip

Wenatchee falls to Dub Sea by a final score of 5-3.

Mason Swan tossed a scoreless inning, while Owen Luchies pitched two scoreless. Braiden Boyd joined the party with a scoreless frame of his own. Trevor Young punched out the side in order in the top of the 8th.

Christian Garcia surrendered the loss giving up three runs on four hits with a walk. 

Dub Sea’s Matt Churchill drove a ball over the right field wall in the 1st inning to give Dub Sea a 3-0 lead.

The Fish Sticks added on in the 2nd with an RBI double by Michael Aikawa. 

Wenatchee got on the board in the 4th when Kyle Ponganiban took home on a stolen base by Jake Sanko. Kanoa Morisaki scored in the 5th on a Ponganiban single to make it a 4-2 game. 

Ponganiban brought home Camden Bates in the 7th to make it a one-run game. 

Dub Sea rebounded with a run in the top of the 9th to add some cushion and give them a 5-3 lead. 

With a Bellingham loss this evening, the AppleSox are tied for 1st in the West Coast League North standings. Wenatchee has the day off Thursday before a six-game road trip with three games in Edmonton and three more in Bellingham. 

Applesox Fry the Fish Sticks

The Wenatchee Applesox took a 5-1 win against the Dub Sea Fish Sticks tonight at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. 

Luke Sterkel earned the win tonight, pitching 5 innings while giving up 3 hits, 1 walk, and earning 4 strikeouts. Camden Bates went 2-5 with an RBI single to open the scoring on the night. Reese Vasser also played well going 2-4 with an RBI single to finish the night’s scoring. 

Easton Brooks came in for relief for Wenatchee throwing 3 no-hit and scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Aidan Gonzalez finished the 9th inning sending down all 3 batters with 1 strikeout. 

The Fish Sticks utilized 4 pitchers tonight in the loss. Dub Sea finished the night with 2 errors, 6 hits, and 5 men left on base. 

The Applesox are still in second place with a 11-4 record. The Bellingham Bells at 12-4 are .5 a game above the ‘Sox. 

Wenatchee looks to finish the series with a sweep tomorrow night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. 

AppleSox Sweep Port Angeles with 13-5 Win

The AppleSox earn a series sweep over the Port Angeles Lefties after beating P.A by a final score of 13-5 Sunday evening. 

Max Mendes earned the win for the ‘Sox (11-4) tossing 5 innings giving up just 3 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts. Jace Taylor tossed 2.1 scoreless innings without a hit surrendering 2 walks with 5 strikeouts. 

Gunnar Penzkover went 3-5 with a double and 3 RBI. Nate Gray Jr. went 3-4, including a double, with 2 RBI. Reid Graham hit a 3-run double to get the AppleSox going in the bottom of the 2nd inning and went 2-5 with 4 total RBI.

Wenatchee scored 4 in the bottom of the 1st with Penzkover’s RBI double and the 3-run double by Graham. The ‘Sox scored 4 more in the 3rd. Graham knocked in his 4th RBI with a single, while Kyle Panganiban hit a 2-run single to make it 8-0. 

The AppleSox added on in the 5th with a groundout to second by Trysten Mooney to score Graham and lead 9-0. 

Port Angeles picked up all 5 of their runs in the 7th - highlighted by a grand slam by Jeremy Giesegh. 

The ‘Sox had 4 more runs in the 8th to put it away. 

Wenatchee is now tied for 1st with the Bellingham Bells in the West Coast League North Standings. The ‘Sox host out-of-league opponent Dub Sea for 2 games Tuesday and Wednesday, before resuming league play on the road against Edmonton.

Applesox Shut Out Port Angeles

The Wenatchee Applesox took a 3-0 win against the Port Angeles Lefties tonight at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. 

Alec Johnson earned the win tonight, pitching 5 scoreless innings while giving up 4 hits, 1 walk, and earning 5 strikeouts. In the 2nd, Colby Holmdahl got the offense going with a 2-run single, and Henry Henkle closed the scoring on the night with an RBI groundout. 

Alec Ammerman came in for relief and earned the save for the ‘Sox. Ammerman pitched 4 scoreless innings, only giving up 3 hits and earning 1 strikeout. 

Port Angeles left 9 men on base with 7 hits. Ammerman sent down the last 7 hitters he saw to close out the game with the win. 

The Applesox are tied for first with the Bellingham Bells both at 10-4. 

Wenatchee looks for the series sweep tomorrow on Bark in the Park night presented by Firehouse Petshop. 

AppleSox Historic Night Turns Into 21-9 Win

The AppleSox gathered 25 hits and 35 total bases to set records for the most in franchise history in a 21-9 walloping of the Port Angeles Lefties. 

Mitch Haythorn (1-2) earned the win going 6 innings with 9 strikeouts. 

Trysten Mooney went 4-5 with three RBI. Brady Bean collected his first home run in a 2-4 effort and scored twice. Jack Barker went 4-6 with 2 2Bs and 3 RBI.

Bean got the offense rolling in the 1st with a solo homer the other way, while Barker hit his 1st double to make it 2-0. The AppleSox (9-4) scored another two in the second on an RBI single by Colby HolmDahl in the second and a ground ball by Kyle Ponaniban to make it 4-0. Another run scored in the 3rd on an RBI single by Mooney. 

Wenatchee rallied for 5 runs in the 5th, and 10 runs in the 6th where the ‘Sox walked 6 times. 

The AppleSox are now tied for 1st with the Bellingham Bells in the West Coast League North Standings. They’ll try for their 5th straight series win Saturday evening.

AppleSox Battle Back to a 11-7 Series Win

The Wenatchee Applesox battle back with a 5-run 7th inning and a strong relief effort from Gunnar Penzkover over the Kamloops NorthPaws to a 11-7 series win on Thursday night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium.

Wenatchee is now 4-0 in series to start the 2025 season. 

Jake Sanko went 2-2 on the night with 3 RBI’s, 2 hits, and 2 runs. Jack Barker going 2-2 with 2 RBI’s, 2 hits, and 2 runs. Gunnar Penzkover earned the win tossing 3.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, one of them being earned. 

The Applesox (8-4) got ahead early in the first with a 2-run triple from Jack Barker. They extended their lead in the 3rd with 3 more runs. 

The Northpaws came back in the 4th, earning a 1-run lead in the 5th. The ‘Sox came back with a dominating 7th to take a commanding 11-7 lead. Brady Bean tied the game with a RBI double, and Cade Martinez took the lead on a passed ball. Singles from Jake Sanko and Reid Graham provided cushion for Wenatchee’s lead. 

The Applesox are now 2nd West Coast League North, 1 game behind the Bellingham Bells. The ‘Sox welcome Port Angeles on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
