AppleSox Shell Out 15 Runs, Win In Non-League Finale

WENATCHEE, Wash. – The Wenatchee AppleSox (3-1, 0-0) scored at least once in each of the first seven innings, and defeated the Spokane Expos (8-3), 15-5, Sunday evening at Paul Thomas Sr. Field.   

Jonny Krupla drove home the game’s first run for the Spokane Expos in the top half of the first, off Sox starter Kyle Blankenship.

Wenatchee responded in the home half, scoring three runs on three hits, and a wild pitch. Eight AppleSox batters came to the plate in the inning.  

The scoring continued in the second for Wenatchee, with a four-hit, four-run frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double for Evan Douglas, who finished 2-5 with 2 RBI. 

Chase Lewallen, also involved in the scoring, drove in three on Sunday, thanks to a 3-4 night. Hunter Hanson also made some outstanding plays in the field and at the plate. He finished 3-6 with 3 R and an RBI-triple. 

Kyle Blankenship worked for five innings before Tyler Burch, a local player from the Wenatchee AppleSox fired off three strong innings of one-run baseball, to help keep the Expo bats at bay.

Brian Gadsby, who joined the team Friday night, fresh out of high school, struck out the side in the top of the ninth to cap a 3-1 non-league record for the AppleSox.

Wenatchee opens up league play, Tuesday night against the Walla Walla Sweets (1-2, 1-2 WCL) at Borleske Stadium in Walla Walla. Gage Burland will be the first AppleSox starter to toe the rubber in league play. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
