CHEERS TO THE WEEKEND
The AppleSox are home starting a six-game homestand against the Walla Walla Sweets and Corvallis Knights...it begins with a weekend series with the Walla Walla Sweets...the AppleSox are a combined 12-7 on Friday, Saturday, Sunday games this year and have four wins on each of those calendar days.
COTTRELL’S GEM
McKabe Cottrell threw the first AppleSox complete game shutout since 2011, last night...Owen Jones was the last AppleSox pitcher to throw a complete-game shutout (June 9, 2011 vs. Kitsap), and also holds a share of Wenatchee’s single-season wins record...Cottrell also became the third AppleSox pitcher this year to toss 10 strikeouts, joining Hunter Boyd and Jarrod Molnaa...it was McKabe’s first collegiate win and the first start to reach eight innings for the AppleSox this season.
GETTING IT RIGHT AT HOME
There’s no better time than now for the Wenatchee AppleSox to improve their recent home record...Wenatchee has won six of its last nine road games, but is just 1-5 at home in its last six home contests...for the AppleSox to stay in close contention in the North, they will likely seek a series win in the first three-game series of the six-game homestand...the AppleSox are 5-2 in home series play this year...they hadn’t lost a home series until their last two tries.
MINIMIZING MISTAKES
Last night, the AppleSox were error free for an 11th time this year...Wenatchee is 10-1 when committing zero errors in games this season.
