AppleSox come back against the Riverhawks

Despite trailing the entire game, the ‘Sox took care of business against the Riverhawks tonight, coming from behind to win 5-4 in game one. The AppleSox were down by two runs in the eighth and scored three to take the lead and snatch the win.

Edmonton was in control of the game from the very start, scoring in the second, fourth, and sixth innings to take a 3-0 lead. Starting right-hander Carter Fink spun seven innings against the ‘Sox, striking out six batters and walking nobody. Fink kept Wenatchee at arm's length the entire game… until the seventh.

With a runner on base, Kainoa Santiago stepped up and demolished a ball 384 feet to right-center field. The two-run homer put the ‘Sox on the board for the first time and lit the fire.

The Riverhawks tacked on an insurance run in the eighth, hoping to keep the ‘Sox at bay. However, Wenatchee was not done yet.

A single, a hit-by-pitch, and a walk loaded the bases for Wenatchee. Then, a passed ball scraped Cooper Brass across. Down by just a run, Ky McGary chopped a ball to the shortstop and, by a stroke of luck, it slipped past the glove and allowed two more runs to hustle in.

In the blink of an eye, the ‘Sox took the lead for the first time. Up 5-4, they were three outs away from a game-one win. Jacob Gabler took the mound to close it out, and he got the job done.

With the win, Wenatchee moves to 11-4 overall on the year and still stands atop the North Division. The ‘Sox continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader, starting at 3:30 pm at Paul Thomas Senior Stadium. Both games will be seven innings long and will be directly after each other.
