After starting the season leading the WCL in strikeouts, the AppleSox just tossed their fist 10+ strikeout game since June 15, 2013 in a 13-strikeout performance against the Walla Walla Sweets. 

CAN’T REACH HIM
With a phenomenal 4.1 innings of scoreless relief last night, Tyler Burch now leads all AppleSox pitchers with 8-consecutive scoreless innings pitched...this dates back to a 3.2 scoreless relief appearance in a June 15 win over the Walla Walla Sweets.  

BAD LUCK WITH EXTENDED GAMES
In the loss last night, Wenatchee played its third extra-inning game of the season (1-2)...the AppleSox have now lost six of their last seven extra-inning games, dating to last season...the AppleSox are 34-31 all-time in extra innings. 

LOSING A LEAD
Wenatchee led 3-0 after six innings last night...with the loss, the AppleSox have now lost five leads on the season in games that ended in a loss. 

BACK ON THE ROAD
Wenatchee has won its last two road series, but did take game one in each of those sets...this following a sweep in the team’s first road matchup of 2016 at Victoria. 

CLOSING THE MONTH
Wenatchee ended the month of June at 10-14 (including non-league games), at a 41.7 percent winning percentage...the month was the second-worst June in team history...in 2007 the AppleSox were 8-12 (40.0 percent)...the AppleSox aren’t so hot opening the month of July in team history...the AppleSox are 5-8 overall, 1-3 on the road, and have a four-game losing streak. 

IN THE CLOSE ONES
Wenatchee is starting to struggle in the close games in 2016...with eight games decided by two runs or fewer this season, the AppleSox are 2-6 in those contests...now 1-2 in extra-inning games...last season, the two losses here in Longview were decided by just one run. 

AT THE ALL STAR HOUSE
When playing at the home of the WCL All Star Game, the AppleSox were 1-2 last year...the Sox salvaged a series win at Bellingham last year to avoid a sweep...in 2014.

When trailing after seven innings of play, the AppleSox are 0-13 this season, despite closing the gap a night ago and forcing extra innings. 

PLENTY OF CHANCES
Wenatchee left 16 runners on base last night, getting runners aboard and leaving them there in the ninth, 11th, and 12th innings...the 16 runners left on was a new season high for the AppleSox.  

BIG INNING HURTS APPLESOX IN 12-INNING LOSS

A tough four-run seventh inning soured a strong start for Grady Miller, Thursday. 

BOX SCORE

WENATCHEE - The Wenatchee AppleSox (8-14), started Thursday night off with a dominant pitching performance, but troubles in the seventh inning allowed the Cowlitz Black Bears (9-13), to get back into the game and eventually win 5-4 in extra innings at Story Field in Longview, Wash. 

The AppleSox were guided for six superb innings by Grady Miller, who used just 53 pitches over the first six frames, only allowing three hits, while striking out four batters and giving up zero walks. 

During the stretch, Wenatchee was hit by pitch five times, and walked four times, while tallying four hits and three runs. 

A throwing error at third base scored Otis Statum in the fourth inning, after he got aboard on a walk and stole second base. Wenatchee led Riley Ohl 1-0 after his 4 1/3 innings of work. 

The AppleSox added two more runs in the sixth inning off of Chandler Greenfield on a sacrifice fly RBI to center field for Shane Martinez and an RBI double for Matt Fraizer. 

Cowlitz knocked Miller out of his groove in the seventh inning after getting a baserunner on an error at first base. A walk set up first and second with nobody out. Weston Hatten then singled to load the bases for the Black Bears. 

A Taylor Yaeger sacrifice fly to center field cut the AppleSox lead to 3-1. Later, a 2-RBI single for Toby Johnson tied the game, and an RBI single for Michael Forgione gave the Bears a 4-3 lead. 

Michael Toglia evened the score in the eighth inning on an RBI ground-rule-double to left field. It scored Matt Fraizer and came earned off of Devon McKesson. 

Tyler Burch and Jake Hawken (1-0), were locked in a pitchers duel for the eighth-11th innings, Thursday. The two went toe-to-toe, continually rolling each half inning over to the opposing team. 

Taylor Borchers relieved Burch in the bottom of the 12th inning, still tied at four. A single for Johnson started the frame off with a runner aboard, and a single and a catcher’s interference loaded the bases after a failed sacrifice bunt attempt resulted in out number one. 

Morgan McCullough drove in the game’s winning run on a ground ball to shortstop that was bobbled by Ryan Kreidler. The AppleSox shortstop successfully relayed the front end of a double play try to second base, but McCullough beat the return throw to first base, to win the game. 

Wenatchee and Cowlitz play game two, Friday night. Ross Clevenger will pitch for the AppleSox at 6:35 p.m. 

HARBOURCATS SWEEP APPLESOX, WIN 17th STRAIGHT

Former AppleSox outfielder AJ Alcantara delivered three of the HarbourCats' six RBI Wednesday night, en route to a 7-6 win at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. 

BOX SCORE

WENATCHEE - The Wenatchee AppleSox (8-13), were swept by the Victoria HarbourCats (17-3), in a 7-6 loss Wednesday night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium.

Wenatchee struck first, Wednesday with two runs in the first inning. Michael Toglia knocked in a runner with an RBI single, following Evan Douglas scoring in the inning on a wild pitch. 

With a 2-0 lead in the second, Justin Blatner ran into a bit of trouble. AJ Alcantara, a former AppleSox outfielder, hit a leadoff solo home run in the second inning, to cut the AppleSox lead to 2-1. Ryan Anderson doubled and came to score on a Blatner error later in the inning. Tommy Jew drove in a third runner for a HarbourCat lead. 

Wenatchee jumped on ‘Cat starter Kyle Mora in the third inning for two runs on a Michael Toglia two-run home run. Ryan Kreidler scored, who was aboard on a walk earlier in the frame. 

Wenatchee cut the deficit to one run with the home run, after Ryan Anderson scored a runner on a sacrifice fly to center field, and Brad Plushkell brought home a runner on an RBI double. 

The score held until the sixth inning, when Wenatchee added another run off of Casey Costello. Haydan Hastings scored on an error by Jew, to tie the game at five. 

Victoria promptly responded with two runs in the seventh inning on a two-RBI single for Alcantara. 

Wenatchee tried to chip away late, scoring Otis Statum on an RBI single in the eighth inning for Shane Martinez, but with a tying run aboard in the ninth, the AppleSox’ tying run was caugh stealing to end the game. 

With the win, Victoria won a 17th-straight game and swept a third-straight series over Wenatchee. The AppleSox continue WCL First Half play at Cowlitz, Thursday, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. 

APPLESOX FENDING OFF SWEEP AT HOME, WEDNESDAY

Justin Blatner (2-0), is gunning for his third AppleSox win, Wednesday. A 5 1/3 inning start will put him onto the WCL leaderboard with what would currently be the league's third-best ERA at 0.77.

Wenatchee will look to regroup for the second half of WCL play in 2016...the new format could prove quite beneficial for the AppleSox, who started a league-worst 0-7 in 2016...they are playing 8-5 baseball since (.615).

THE ACE
Justin Blatner is trying to prove tonight that he is the AppleSox’ ace up on the hill...the left-hander has won each of his three outings this season (one non-league), which included a win over Corvallis to snap Wenatchee out of the season-opening 7-game losing streak...with an ERA below 1.00, a good start tonight should continue to place Blatner in the conversation for a chance at cracking the North’s All Star roster. 

WHERE HE STACKS UP
Currently, Justin Blatner does not qualify for the league leaderboard (min. .8 inn. per team WCL game), but with a 5.1 inning start tonight, he would fulfill that requirement...his 0.77 ERA would be tied for third-best in the WCL, and tops amongst WCL North pitchers, while also ranking second amongst all left-handers. 

HANDING ‘EM OUT
Last night, the AppleSox gave up a lot of free bases on walks...the nine walks allowed were most since giving up eight at Victoria June 7...Thornquist issued six free passes...Wenatchee has three pitchers ranking in the top-10 for most walks in the WCL, including Thornquist (10), Dobrash (13), and Mattson (13)...the only other team with three pitchers in that top-ten is Cowlitz. 

RUNS
The AppleSox pitching staff is in a major funk...through 20 games, Wenatchee is giving up 5.90 runs per game...the highest total allowed through the first 20 games since 2000 (6.53). 

HARBOURCAT STREAKS
Not only has Victoria won 16-straight WCL games, they also have won 9-consecutive against Wenatchee over the last calendar year (an 11-10 loss in 11 innings at Victoria 6/28/15).

TROUBLE IN GAME THREE
So far this season, Wenatchee is 1-5 in the third and final games of series...twice the AppleSox have tried to fend off sweeps and failed this season. 

THREE-STRAIGHT
A sweep for the HarbourCats tonight would mark the third-straight time they have swept the AppleSox in a series...a feat never accomplished by any AppleSox opponent.

Opponents are hitting .277 against the AppleSox this season, but once they get a man on base, they ramp it up to a .296 average with four home runs...the AppleSox are hitting .259 with runners on and only two home runs.

After Victoria’s win last night, there are only three teams in the WCL with all-time above .500 records against the AppleSox (Bend/32-28, Yakima Valley/12-9, Victoria/12-11).

Five extra-base hits, including two Jarron Silva triples, powered the HarbourCats past the AppleSox 9-4, Tuesday.

Game three of the series is Wednesday. Justin Blatner will pitch for Wenatchee against Kyle Mora for Victoria. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Rathbone Named WCL Player of the Week

Jordan Rathbone was named WCL Player of the Week for June 20-26 League President Donnie Marbut announced, Tuesday. It is the AppleSox first weekly honor of the season.

The West Coast League Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by league president Donnie Marbut, were Gonzaga redshirt-freshman Jordan Rathbone of the Wenatchee AppleSox and Cal Poly frosh right-hander Bobby Ay of the Walla Walla Sweets for the week of June 20-26.

Rathbone ignited Wenatchee's offense, leading the Sox to a 4-2 week on the road and 43 runs vs. Bend and Gresham. The GU freshman outfielder from Gonzaga Prep went 10-for-15 with six runs scored, two doubles, a triple and 3 RBIs while posting a .737 on base percentage. He is currently hitting .327 with a team-leading 18 hits and three multi-hit games. 

HARBOURCATS DOWN APPLESOX FOR WCL-RECORD WINNING STREAK

The AppleSox took an early lead and tied the game once, but the Victoria HarbourCats held on for a 7-4 victory. 

BOX SCORE

WENATCHEE - The Wenatchee AppleSox (8-11), were downed by the Victoria HarbourCats (15-3), 7-4, Monday night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. Victoria won its 15th-consecutive game, which broke the previous WCL record of 14, held by the AppleSox. 

Wenatchee drew first blood in the third inning off of HarbourCat starter James Kannenberg, who was making his second start of the season against Wenatchee. 

A two-out RBI single for Matt Fraizer and a two-out RBI double for Evan Douglas off the right field wall put Wenatchee ahead early. 

Victoria responded in the top of the third inning with three runs off of Jimmy Dobrash, who had faced the minimum nine batters through three innings, allowing only one hit. 

The HarbourCats connected on a sac fly RBI with the bases loaded and nobody out. Wenatchee did double off a tagging runner at third base to turn two on the play, but Joe Prior launched a pitch in the next at bat over the wall in left field for a 3-2 HarbourCat lead. It was Prior’s second home run of the season. 

In the sixth, Victoria added to its lead with a second home run off of Dobrash. Ben Polshuk also exited the park to left field for his third home run of the season and a 4-2 HarbourCat lead. It was the second-straight night Wenatchee had given up two home runs. 

In the seventh inning, Wenatchee responded with runs off of Austin Dondanville (2-0), who worked in relief of Collin Ashworth and Kannenberg, who left the game earlier with an apparent arm injury. 

With two outs, a two-RBI double for Shane Martinez to deep right field gave the AppleSox new life and brought the game even at 4-4.

Victoria took back the lead for good in the eight, chasing AppleSox reliever Mac Lardner (0-1), on an RBI Griffin Andreychuk double to left center field. It scored leadoff hitter Mat Lautz from first base and put Victotia ahead for good. Lardner left the game with the bases loaded and no outs. Tyler Burch entered and surrendered a run on a walk, and another on a wild pitch; both charged to Lardner. 

The Sox went down in order in the eight and ninth inning at the hands of Dondanville and Holden Lyons, who picked up his fourth save of the season, striking out two-of-three batters faced. 

The series continues Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Luke Mattson (0-3) will pitch against Jack Wolger (0-0). It is Cougar Night and fans who wear WSU apparel will earn general gate admission for $6. The Cougar Cruiser will be in attendance.

Despite a 8-3 stretch since an 0-7 start, Wenatchee finds itself with its backs against the wall in the WCL North First Half Standings...the Sox have nine games left in the first half to pick up 6.5 games on the Victoria HarbourCats...with a sweep, the Sox could be 3.5 games back with six first-half games to play...anything less than two wins in the series, and Wenatchee is eliminated from first-half contention in the WCL North (7.5+ back with seven-or-less games to play).

APPLESOX FALTER IN FINALE, WIN SERIES AT GRESHAM

Gresham scored 11-unanswered runs Sunday to salvage a game in the three-game series. 

BOX SCORE

GRESHAM - The Wenatchee AppleSox (8-10), fell victim to the big inning Sunday night in Oregon, and the Gresham GreyWolves (7-12), salvaged a game in the set, winning 11-9 at Oslund Field in Gresham, Ore.

After trailing the AppleSox 6-0 into the bottom of the fourth inning, the GreyWolves rattled off the game’s next 11 runs to secure their first victory over the AppleSox. 

Wenatchee made good on multiple Gresham miscues in the second inning, scoring two runs on three errors. 

In the fourth the AppleSox got four more runs off of Gabe Benavides on an RBI triple for Jordan Rathbone, RBI single for Alex Gonzales, and an error in left field allowed the other two runs to score. 

Rathbone finished with his team-leading sixth multi-hit game of the year. Gonzales and Evan Douglas also had two-hit nights, and Ryan Kreidler delivered a phenomenal four-hit performance. 

Matt Young was dominant throughout three innings for Wenatchee, but Gresham finally reached him in the fourth for a two-run home run from Nick Snyder. It was the GreyWolves’ first home run of 2016. 

In the sixth, Gresham scored twice more off of Ross Clevenger, who was working in relief. Mark Cardinalli and Drew Curtis were credited RBI singles. 

In the seventh, things went from bad to worse for Clevenger. Two more runs came home. Both were hit off of Dylan Riddle (0-1), but charged to Clevenger. Riddle surrendered an additional four runs in the frame on a Dylan Doherty bases-loaded double, and Cardinalli RBI single. 

Gresham added a run of insurance in the eighth on its second home run of the night. This time, bu Jack Johnson who finished 4-for-4 with two doubles and the solo home run. 

Wenatchee rallied for three runs in the ninth, chasing GreyWolf reliever Carter Buuck. Jake Boyd came in and allowed the runs to score on two RBI singles and a fielder’s choice. He got the final out with the tying runs on base, striking out Matt Fraizer. 

Wenatchee returns home, Monday to try to put an end to the Victoria HarbourCat’s 14-game winning streak. The mark ties Wenatchee for the longest winning streak in WCL history (set in 2011), and Jimmy Dobrash (1-2) is set to face the ‘Cats for a second time this season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium.

WENATCHEE WINS FOURTH-STRAIGHT SERIES BEHIND PRICE’S BIG NIGHT

A five-run sixth inning propelled the AppleSox to a 8-3 win, Saturday night in Oregon. 

BOX SCORE

GRESHAM - The Wenatchee AppleSox (8-9), used a five-run sixth inning to beat the Gresham GreyWolves (6-12), 8-3, Saturday night at Oslund Field in Gresham, Ore.

Parker Price delivered a go-ahead 3-RBI triple in the inning, which started with Evan Douglas getting aboard on a single. Ryan Kreidler also singled in the inning, and Jordan Rathbone walked. With the bases loaded and one out, Otis Statum struck out looking. Haydan Hastings came to the plate and delivered an RBI infield single off the GreyWolves pitcher, David Wallum (1-1). The ball hit Wallum on the left side and got away on the infield for the base hit. 

Price unloaded the bases in the next at bat with the go-ahead triple.

STATUM SLAMS TWO HOMERS IN WIN
A multi-homer night for Otis Statum sparked the AppleSox first all-time victory in Gresham...it was the first multi-home run night for the AppleSox since current infielder Evan Douglas hit two home runs at Victoria June 26, 2015...before last season, the feat hadn’t been accomplished by the AppleSox since 2011...Breland Almadova hit two against Portland in Wenatchee.  

ON A TEAR
The AppleSox are riding a big-time hot streak at the plate in their last five games...the Sox are hitting .287 with four home runs and 51 hits...an average of 10.2 hits-per-game. 

OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT
Grady Miller will be toeing the rubber for the AppleSox tonight...the left-hander supplied the team’s longest start of the season, going 7.0 innings in a winning effort June 12 vs. Corvallis.

RATHBONE THRIVING
Jordan Rathbone is hitting .538 in the last five games, with seven hits in 13 at bats...he has driven in two runs over the stretch and went 4-for-5 last night...Rathbone is also the team’s leading hitter over the last ten games, with a .462 mark (12-for-26).

Otis Statum Clubs Two Home Runs, Sox Win 9-1

Otis Statum's first two extra-base hits of WCL play cleared the wall at Oslund Field in Gresham, Ore. The Sox went on to win 9-1. 

GRESHAM - The Wenatchee AppleSox (7-9), bashed three home runs, and Otis Statum hit two of them in a 9-1 win over the Gresham GreyWolves (6-11), Friday night at Oslund Field in Gresham, Ore. 

Statum put the AppleSox on the board in the second inning, when he hammered a three-run home run over the left center field fence. Jordan Rathbone and Alex Gonzales scored, and were aboard on a single and a walk. 

Gresham starter Chris Brown (0-2) continued to struggle with the long ball, Friday, when Ryan Kreidler hit a solo home run in the third inning, following Shane Martinez scoring on a wild pitch. 

Otis Statum ended Brown’s night on the hill with a second home run. His solo shot to open the fourth inning, put the AppleSox up 6-0. It was the first time an AppleSox player had hit two home runs in a game since Evan Douglas accomplished the feat at Victoria, June 26, 2015.

Wenatchee added a seventh run on a Martinez sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. 

Justin Blatner (2-0) carried the AppleSox through 5 2/3 scoreless innings. He struck out four batters while scattering six hits.

The AppleSox scored their last two runs on RBI singles for Michael Toglia and Rathbone in the seventh. Rathbone finished with four hits for the AppleSox, and Martinez, Kreidler, and Statum also chipped-in with multi-hit efforts. 

Gresham got its lone run in the eighth inning off of Taylor Borchers on an RBI groundout. Borchers threw the final 3 1/3 innings for Wenatchee to earn a save.

Game two of the three-game series is Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Grady Miller (1-1) will pitch for Wenatchee. The AppleSox are going for a fourth-straight WCL series win.

BEND – The Wenatchee AppleSox (6-9), came up short in their try for a first sweep over the Bend Elks (7-11), Thursday night in a 9-1 final at Vince Genna Stadium in Bend, Ore...after coming up with 31 hits in the first two games of the series, the AppleSox offense was slowed by Andrew Edwards (1-1), and the Elks...Wenatchee came up with just two hits in the game...Bend opened the scoring with an RBI single for Tommy Lane in the first inning...Wenatchee answered in the third inning after a double for Matt Fraizer...with two outs, Fraizer stole third base and came home to score on a throwing error by the Elk’s catcher...in the fourth inning, Bend took back the lead for good. The Elks brought around five runs in the inning, while knocking Luke Mattson (0-3) out of the game...Lane got his second and third RBI on a double, and Jake Anderson chipped in an RBI single in the frame...the Elks tacked on three more runs in the seventh inning off of Sox reliever Eli Thornquist, who worked after Casey Legumina...the runs were the first allowed this season by Thornquist and came on RBI singles for Anderson and Jarod Gonzales...a throwing error from center field brought home the third run...Wenatchee committed three errors in the game...Tyler Burch pitched the eighth inning for Wenatchee and retired the side with a strikeout...Wenatchee struck out in order in the ninth, and Bend’s pitching staff tallied 14 strikeouts in the win...Edwards tossed nine, Grant Larson threw two, and Sam Boone got the final three.

Bend opened the scoring with an RBI single for Tommy Lane in the first inning. Wenatchee answered in the third inning after a double for Matt Fraizer. With two outs, Fraizer stole third base and came home to score on a throwing error by the Elk’s catcher. 

In the fourth inning, Bend took back the lead for good. The Elks brought around five runs in the inning, while knocking Luke Mattson (0-3) out of the game. Lane got his second and third RBI on a double, and Jake Anderson chipped in an RBI single in the frame. 

The Elks tacked on three more runs in the seventh inning off of Sox reliever Eli Thornquist, who worked after Casey Legumina. The runs were the first allowed this season by Thornquist and came on RBI singles for Anderson and Jarod Gonzales. A throwing error from center field brought home the third run. 

Wenatchee committed three errors in the game. 

Tyler Burch pitched the eighth inning for Wenatchee and retired the side with a strikeout. 

Wenatchee struck out in order in the ninth, and Bend’s pitching staff tallied 14 strikeouts in the win. Edwards tossed nine, Grant Larson threw two, and Sam Boone got the final three. 

Wenatchee continues its road trip, Friday, at Gresham. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. 

APPLESOX GOING FOR FIRST WCL SWEEP VS BEND

The AppleSox are going for their first sweep against Bend in the team's WCL history. It would be the Sox first road sweep since August, 2014.

NEVER DONE BEFORE
The AppleSox are trying to accomplish a feat, never before attained against the Elks...a series sweep...Wenatchee is 0-for-1 in series sweep tries this season (Walla Walla), but did earn a third-straight WCL series win last night in the 5-3 final over the Elks.

A DIFFERENT STORY
Need proof that the AppleSox have changed quite a bit over the last week and a half?...the Sox are winners of six of their last seven league games, eight-of-nine overall, and have raised their team batting average by 40 points since an 0-7 start...in fact, over the last five games, Wenatchee is batting .286 and is .265 over the last ten contests...the pitching staff is 4-1, with a 2.63 ERA in the last five games, and 6-4 with a 3.46 ERA in the last ten games.

Wenatchee had batters finish with four hits in two-consecutive nights, after Michael Toglia went 4-for-5, Wednesday...Matt Fraizer was 4-for-6, Tuesday.

Last night, through four innings, Wenatchee’s one through four hitters were a combined 9-for-11 with three of the team’s five runs scored, and all five of the team’s RBIs...Evan Douglas and Michael Toglia combined 7-for-10 with 3 RBI and a double in the three & four spots of the lineup.

How about the final relievers for the AppleSox in 2016...they have now recorded five saves in six wins and are a perfect 5-for-5 in save opportunities. 

DOUGLAS ON FIRE
Evan Douglas is riding a nine-game hitting streak for the AppleSox and hitting a team-best .545 over the last five games...he also leads the team with an even .500 average dating back to ten games ago. 

MATTSON THE MARATHON MAN
Luke Mattson makes his third start of the season for Wenatchee, Thursday...he leads the team in average pitches thrown per outing this year, with 93.5.

BREAKING OUT BROOMS
It has been awhile since the AppleSox last swept an opponent on the road...a feat not accomplished a season ago, the last Sox road sweet was Aug. 5-7, 2014 at Kelowna...the last Sox sweep in general was July 3-5 at home against Klamath Falls. 

DEFENSE NEEDING A PICK-ME-UP
The AppleSox are still trying to get their gloves going in 2016...the team’s .950 fielding percentage is second-lowest in the WCL, and the 27 total errors committed is fourth most. 

STRONG AFTER SEVEN
When Wenatchee makes it through the seventh inning with a lead in 2016, the Sox hold on...they are 5-0 protecting leads held in the seventh inning or later.

APPLESOX RIDE HOT BATS TO ANOTHER SERIES WIN

With another boisterous effort offensively, Wednesday night, the Wenatchee AppleSox secured a third-straight WCL series win, in a 5-3 victory over the Bend Elks.

BEND - The Wenatchee AppleSox (6-8), came up with 15 hits, Wednesday night, after a 17-hit performance Tuesday, to help secure a 5-3 victory over the Bend Elks (6-11), and a third-consecutive WCL series win at Vince Genna Stadium in Bend, Ore. 

Like Tuesday, the AppleSox hit the Elks hard early, and often, in last night’s contest. Shane Martinez hit the first pitch of the night from Kris Jackson (1-2) for a single, and an Evan Douglas single and a Michael Toglia RBI single got the Sox on the board 1-0. 

In the second inning, Wenatchee added four more runs on four-consecutive RBI singles for Martinez, Matt Fraizer, Douglas, and Toglia. Jordan Rathbone and Otis Statum also singled in the four-run frame, and came home to score. 

Toglia and Douglas combined to go 7-for-10, with Toglia finishing 4-for-5 with 2 RBI. Douglas has now hit safely in a team-leading nine-consecutive games.

Bend answered in the home half, off of AppleSox starter Jimmy Dobrash (1-2), with an RBI groundout following a Jarod Gonzales double. Derek Chapman drove in the run, and brought Gonzales home again in the fourth for a 5-2 deficit. 

After six innings and a quality start, Jimmy Dobrash left the contest and Miceal Taylor allowed the bases loaded on three-straight hits. A fourth hit for Tommy Lane was good for an RBI and cut the Sox lead to two at 5-3. 

With the bases still loaded and nobody out, Taylor induced a key ground ball to third base. Martinez went home with the throw and Sox catcher Matt Reitano relayed the back end to Toglia in time for a 5-2-3 double play. 

The next batter grounded out to Toglia to end the inning.

Taylor retired the Elks in order in the eighth, before yielding for Dylan Riddle out of the bullpen in the ninth. 

Still holding on to a 5-3 lead, Riddle appeared to have his first out of the inning on a ground ball to second base, but a fourth error of the night for the AppleSox gave the Elks an extra out and brought the tying run to the plate. Riddle retired the next three batters to pick up his first save, and give Wenatchee another 2016 series win. 

Since the AppleSox’ 0-7 start, Wenatchee is now 6-1 in its last seven games. 

Thursday night, Wenatchee will play for its first series sweep of the Bend Elks in WCL play. Bend, outside of new WCL expansion franchise Gresham, is the only team the AppleSox have not swept in the playing history of the WCL. Luke Mattson is scheduled to get the start for Wenatchee. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.

Wenatchee came up with new season highs in hits in a game (16), runs in a game (11), runs in an inning (9), and hits in an inning (7), last night at Vince Genna Stadium...in fact, the nine runs scored in the top of the third were more than in any previous league game during the 2016 season.

THE LAST TIME...
You’re probably wondering the last time the AppleSox came up with 10 or more runs and 15 or more hits in a game...Wenatchee last scored 10 runs at home, Aug. 2, 2015 against Victoria...the team tallied 17 hits at Kelowna July 30, 2015.

FIERY FRAIZER
Matt Fraizer is having quite the start to his 2016 season...hitting .345 in his first seven games, Fraizer has more hits in the last ten games (10), and the last five games (7) than any of his other AppleSox teammates, including four players who have played in more than seven of the last 10 games...Fraizer was 4-for-6 last night with a run scored and an RBI...the last time an AppleSox player collected four hits in a game was July 31, 2015 at home against the Victoria HarbourCats...Joey Jansen accomplished the feat. 

DOUGLAS KEEPS HITTING
Evan Douglas has hit safely in eight-consecutive games...a season-high hitting streak for the AppleSox, and a new AppleSox career-high hitting streak...he previously attained streaks of seven-consecutive games on two occassions in 2015 (June 14-28 & July 29-Aug. 5).

BLANKED
Wenatchee shut out Bend for its second shutout of the 2016 season...if you factor in a non-league shutout over the weekend, the AppleSox have thrown three shutouts in the last seven nights...Wenatchee threw four shutouts in all of the 2016 season.

LATELY
Over the last five games, the AppleSox pitching staff is near the league-low in ERA...with a 2.06 ERA over the last five, the only WCL team with a better mark is Bellingham at 1.88...Bend on the other hand ranks ninth at 5.22...the Sox are also hitting .249 over the last five games with three home runs, and 26 RBI. 

HOT BATS
Five AppleSox hitters are attaining batting averages above .300 over the last five games...Evan Douglas leads the charge at .556 (5x9, 2RBI), followed by Michael Toglia (6x15, 6RBI) and Shane Martinez (2x5, 2RBI) at .400...then Jordan Rathbone is hitting .385 (5x13, 4RBI), and Matt Fraizer is at .318 (7x22, RBI).

FILLED UP
With bases-loaded hitting success last night, the AppleSox are now batting .286 with 14 RBI in 14 at bats with the bases loaded in 2016...the Sox are up to a .293 average with two outs and runners in scoring position.

BIG THIRD INNING PROPELS APPLESOX TO ROAD TRIP-OPENING WIN

The AppleSox set new 2016 season single-game highs for runs scored, hits attained, runs scored in an inning, and total hits in an inning, Tuesday night at Bend.

BEND - The Wenatchee AppleSox (5-8), utilized a nine-run third inning, Tuesday night, to lead the way in an 11-0 shutout over the Bend Elks (6-10) at Vince Genna Stadium in Bend, Ore.
