Theo Kim drove in Wenatchee’s last two two-out runs with a 2-RBI single in the eighth and advanced to second on a throw home after Noah Gield and Kanoa Morisaki scored ahead of him. Kim followed up a 3-for-5 day Monday with a hit in his only at-bat Tuesday after pinch running for Madariaga in the eighth.

The AppleSox plated its three final runs after Kelowna brought on assistant coach Cole Van Every to pitch the ninth. Each of the first five hitters reached based to open the inning and Noah Fields and Morisaki recorded RBI singles before Cade Martinez hit a sacrifice fly.

Owen Firestone (1-0) hurled five innings in relief to earn the win. He retired the side in order in the fourth and fifth before a four-run sixth. Firestone recovered with a scoreless seventh and finished off his 94-pitch night by stranding the bases-loaded in the eighth.

With Victoria’s 8-2 over Edmonton Tuesday, the AppleSox are locked in as the fourth seed in the North Division for the WCL Playoffs. The Bells broke a 3-3 tie with a four-run seventh to take two-of-three games in the weekend series... Seven-of-nine AppleSox position players recorded at least one hit. Bellingham and Wenatchee split the season series, 3-3…

Season Series vs. Kelowna: The AppleSox are 2-4 vs. the Falcons this season and have dropped each of the last four meetings... Wenatchee won two-of-three games at home June 3-5 via back-to-back shutouts to open the series... Kelowna swept a three-game set at Elks Stadium July 4-6… The AppleSox are 112-56 all-time vs. the Falcons (playoffs included), with both teams tracing their origins back to 2000… Wenatchee last lost a season series to Kelowna in 2018 by dropping four-of-six meetings…

The Falcons: Are tied with Port Angeles for last in the North Division with a 19-32 overall record… Went a division-worst 9-18 in the first half but are 10-14 in the second half, only two games behind fourth-place Wenatchee… Were swept by Edmonton on the road over the weekend… Were shut out in the series by a combined score of 31-0 and have been blanked eight times this season… Are last in the WCL in batting average (.237), on-base percentage (.336) and slugging percentage (.301)…

Canadian Conundrum: The AppleSox are 18-18 against Canadian opponents in 2025… Wenatchee opened the summer 6-3 against their friends from the North but are 12-15 since June 20… The AppleSox have been swept three times this season, all of which have been by Canadian teams. Wenatchee has never had a losing record against teams north of the border in the three previous seasons under head coach Mitch Darlington, going 63-25 from 2022-24 (17-6 in 2022, 23-9 in 2023 and 23-10 in 2024)… Elks Stadium has also proven to be a tough venue for the AppleSox as of late with Wenatchee dropping four of its last six series here since 2018 and holding a 9-9 record in Kelowna in that span…

Concluding In Canada: This is the third time in the last seven seasons and the fourth time in 25 seasons that the Wenatchee has wrapped up the regular season with a road series at Kelowna... The AppleSox have lost the series in all three occasions by only taking the middle game of a series on Aug. 10, 2013 and then only winning the first game of three-game sets Aug. 6, 2018 and Aug. 5, 2018… Wenatchee suffered heartbreak in each of its two previous trips to Kelowna by failing to clinch a playoff spot with a sweep in 2018 and then falling short of winning the second half in 2023 by also needing a sweep... The AppleSox have also wrapped up the regular season against the Falcons three times at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium with series sweeps July 22-24, 2001, July 19-21, 2002 and Aug. 3-5, 2007…

Postseason Ticket Punched: For the 17th time in franchise history the AppleSox are competing in postseason play… Wenatchee has now qualified for the WCL Playoffs for a fourth straight season, the second-longest streak in franchise history behind a 12-year streak from 2002-13… The postseason begins this Friday when the AppleSox will host either the Bellingham Bells, the Victoria HarbourCats or the Edmonton Riverhawks at 6:35 Friday night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium in Game 1 of the best-of-three North Division Series... Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3 will be at the opposing team’s ballpark Saturday and Sunday, respectively… Wenatchee can finish with the third seed in the North Division at best and cannot win the second half title…

Chasing 30: The AppleSox are two wins away from reaching 30 victories in league play in a regular season for the third straight season and the seventh time in franchise history... In addition to the 37-win 2023 season and the 35-win 2024 campaign, the AppleSox also won 30 games in 2014, 37 games in 2012, 39 games in 2011 and 34 games in 2009…

Road Woes: The AppleSox are 9-15 away from Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium this summer and have won four-of-eight road series… Wenatchee has won at least 10 road games in each of the previous seven seasons but failure to win once in this series would result in the first single-digit win total on the road since a 9-18 2016…Their last team to make the playoffs despite a sub-.500 road record was the 2022 team (12-15)… The AppleSox are 299-265 all time in road regular season games in league play and 53-52 the last four seasons under head coach Mitch Darlington…

Multi-Hit Martinez: AppleSox infielder Cade Martinez has recorded 19 multi-hit games this summer, tied for the fifth-most in regular season league play in single-season franchise history... He is tied with Aidan Dougherty (2024), Aiva Arquette (2022), Connor McCord (2018), Keston Hiura (2015), Ty Jackson (2014) and Brett Stephens (2013) and needs to record multiple hits in each game of this series to tie Mitchell Gunsolus (2012) and Joichiro Oyama (2022) for the AppleSox’ single-season record... Martinez was the AppleSox’ 2025 recipient of the seventh annual Tommy Watanabe Award in honor of his passion and respect for the game of baseball as well as all of those who are involved in it… The 2025 WCL All-Star leads the AppleSox with 57 hits, a figure that is tied with Erik Munzer (2011) for the 16th-most in club single-season history…

Stone Cold Cloyd: AppleSox first baseman Evan Cloyd has been hit by a pitch eight times in only 15 games... His 15 hit by pitches over the last two summers are tied for fourth-most in an AppleSox career with Marshall Bratton (2001-03)… Cloyd is three away from moving into a tie with Jordan Rathbone (2015-16, 18) for third place and 10 away from tying Hawkins Gebbers (2006-08) for the most in club history... He has been hit by a pitch 30 times over the last four summers in the West Coast League, including tying for seventh in the WCL with 11 hit by pitches in 2023 with Portland... Cloyd broke Cal State Bakersfield and the Big West’s single-season hit by pitch records with 33 this spring while finishing with the second-most in the entire NCAA…

Canfield Cooks: AppleSox right-hander Evan Canfield continues to etch his name in the team history books in his fourth season in Wenatchee... In addition joining John Gebbers (2000-03) and Jack DeDonato (2021-24) as the only players to suit up in four different regular seasons with the team, Canfield also became the AppleSox all-time leader in games pitched with his first appearance of the summer, July 19 vs. Nanaimo... His 33 appearances are four more than Tyler Kane (2012-13), whom he entered this season tied with… Canfield has also moved into third in AppleSox history with 117 strikeouts, surpassing Hunter Boyd (110, 2017-18) and just eight away from his pitching coach and former teammate Quincy Vassar (125, 2022-24)... Canfield is also chasing Vassar for the most innings pitched in AppleSox history, sitting seventh all time with 101.1 innings and 30.1 back of Vassar... His 12 starts are the third-most by an AppleSox pitcher in the last four seasons under head coach Mitch Darlington… Canfield moved out of a tie with Jack Moffitt (2022-23) by allowing one run and striking out four in four innings last Friday vs. Bellingham and he only trails Vassar (25) and Ryan Martinez (14, 2023-24)…

The MLB Draft concluded Monday afternoon and a total of four AppleSox alums were selected this year. In addition to Aiva Arquette being the highest drafted AppleSox alum ever with the seventh selection overall Sunday, three more AppleSox heard their names called Monday as Justin Stransky, Jadon Williamson and Jack Barker were picked.

The four players selected in this year’s draft represent the most for the AppleSox in a year since 2022. With Barker being selected, this is the third time in the last four seasons that an AppleSox player was selected in the same summer that he played for the team. He joins Arquette, who was also selected in the 18th round in 2022 by the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Jace Hampson, who was picked in the 18th round last summer by the New York Mets.

Stransky was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 10th round with the 301st overall pick. He only appeared in five league games for the AppleSox after being added in August to provide catching depth. Stransky joined Ridgefield and earned 2023 All-WCL Honorable Mention by hitting .337 with a home run and 10 RBI in 28 games before being the 2024 All-WCL First Team catcher with a .364 average, four home runs and 34 RBI in 39 games.

The Puyallup native hit over .300 in all four of his collegiate seasons, first hitting a combined .323 from 2022-23 with Lower Columbia before going on to hit .304 the last two years at Fresno State. Stransky helped the Red Devils win the 2023 NWAC Championship before being named a 2025 Buster Posey Collegiate Catcher of the Year Semifinalist and to the 2025 All-Mountain West First Team.

The Miami Marlins selected Williamson in the 11th round with the 318th overall pick. He played two seasons for the AppleSox, first appearing in two games in 2021. Williamson went on to earn All-WCL Second Team honors in 2023 after posting a 1.56 ERA with 42 strikeouts over 33 innings in 10 relief appearances. He recorded five outings of at least four innings in the regular season and then tossed 7.1 innings out of the bullpen on Aug. 8 in the postseason. Williamson’s most important performance came on Aug. 3 when he tossed 5.2 scoreless innings and struck out seven against Bellingham in a 3-1 win.

The Longview native put together a decorated collegiate career, first at Lower Columbia College. Williamson only appeared in five games in 2023, but recorded a 0.43 ERA and won NWAC MVP thanks to 8.2 scoreless innings with 14 strikeouts in relief in the NWAC Championship Game. He was the Cascade Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year this spring after leading the conference with a 2.47 ERA, a .200 opponent batting average and 86 strikeouts.

Barker was selected 401st overall in the 13th round by the Philadelphia Phillies. He appeared in 11 games last month and batted .375 with five extra-base hits and 10 RBI. Barker recorded four multi-hit games, with three of them coming in his final four games. He went 4-for-6 with 3 RBI in a 21-9 win vs. Port Angeles June 13 as the AppleSox broke their single-game franchise record with 26 hits.

The Meridian, Idaho native was headed to Colorado Mesa this fall after leading the College of Southern Idaho with a .456 average last spring. Barker also led the Golden Eagles with 22 doubles, eight home runs, 65 RBI, 33 walks and 153 total bases. He also posted a stellar freshman season with a .372 average, two home runs and 24 RBI in 36 games.

Arquette Becomes Highest Drafted AppleSox Alum

Former AppleSox infielder Aiva Arquette was selected seventh overall by the Miami Marlins in the 2025 MLB Draft on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta. Arquette becomes the highest drafted former AppleSox player just three years after playing for Wenatchee.

Arquette, a shortstop on the 2022 AppleSox, put together a phenomenal junior year at Oregon State this spring. He helped Oregon State reach the College World Series by batting .354 with 19 home runs and 66 RBI. Arquette was a Brooks Wallace Award finalist as well as a Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist and a Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist.

Arquette was previously selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 18th round of the 2022 MLB Draft in the midst of a standout summer with the AppleSox. He hit .335 in 39 games and collected a team-high 39 RBI, a figure that also put him tied for the fourth-most in the WCL. The Kailua, Hawaii native did not sign with the Diamondbacks and went on to spend two seasons at Washington before transferring to Oregon State last fall. He made the All-Pac-12 Team and Pac-12 All Defense Team as a sophomore and hit .325 with 12 home runs and 36 RBI in 48 games.

Arquette surpasses Keston Hiura as the highest drafted AppleSox player in the franchise’s 25 seasons. Hiura was selected ninth overall by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2017. Arquette joins Hiura, Michael Toglia (2019), Clayton Mortensen (2007) as former AppleSox to get selected in the first round.
