AppleSox Win Game 1 of Division Series

Wenatchee took down the Kelowna Falcons in game 1 by a score of 5-3.

The Wenatchee bats did a good job of getting the hits they needed, when they needed them in game 1 of the playoffs. The Sox collected 9 hits on the night, led by Cameron Edman's 3-4 performance which included 1 run and 1 RBI. Gino Aielli also had a big night going 2-4 including a solo home run to finish the night with 1 RBI and 1 run. Tuesday nights hero however was Luke Zirkle, who had a 2 RBI pinch hit double to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the 9th inning to win the game for Wenatchee.

The Wenatchee pitching staff did a great job as well, holding Kelowna to just 3 runs. Jeremy Stumetz got the start and pitched 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 6. Garrett Dorn did an outstanding job in relief, pitching 2.1 innings striking out 2 and keeping Kelowna off the scoreboard. Chad Smith pitched the final 2 outs of the game, striking out both batters he faced to record the save and get the win for Dorn.

Game 2 of the series will be played in Wenatchee on Wednesday night. A Wenatchee victory will win the series and advance the Sox to the Championship Series.
