Fletcher Vynne hired as AppleSox assistant

From SanJuanJournal.com

Current Seattle University graduate assistant Fletcher Vynne has been tabbed by coach Ed Knaggs as his assistant for the 2010 season.

Coach Knaggs is looking forward to working with Vynne this summer, stating that "He's a high-energy guy, a great assistant coach. He's a loyal, hard-working kind of guy."

AppleSox pitching coach Rob Hippi was working at a prospect camp at Seattle U this fall where he first met coach Vynne. Throughout their conversation, the AppleSox came up, and Hippi knew that there was an opening on the AppleSox coaching staff. Coach Knaggs and Hippi generally reserve the 3rd assistant spot for young, up and coming coaches; Vynne fit the bill. Vynne expressed some interest, so Hippi ran the idea by Knaggs, and the rest is history.

Vynne will be taking over for last year's popular assistant coach Roberto Saenz, who will be continuing his bright coaching career in the Cape Cod League this summer with the Chatham Anglers. Responsibilities for Vynne will include include hitting coach, first base coach, scouting, and field maintenance throughout the summer.

Vynne, from Friday Harbor, WA, played his collegiate ball at the University of British Columbia where he helped them win the NAIA World Series in 2006. He served as team captain his senior season while leading the team in home runs.

Upon graduating from UBC in 2008, he began working on his master's degree in sports administration and leadership at Seattle University.

The perfect gift

If you have ever tried to put green grass or hot dogs in a stocking before, you probably didn`t get the reaction you were hoping for. Let us help. The AppleSox have a couple of different gift options that will allow friends and family to enjoy some great baseball this spring and summer.

Family Pass

Come out to the ballpark and enjoy the first ever Division 1 baseball game played in Wenatchee. On Tuesday, April 13th, the AppleSox will host the Cross State Baseball Showdown featuring the Washington State University Cougars versus the Seattle University Redhawks baseball programs. The Cougars and Redhawks will play this regular season game at Paul Thomas Sr. Baseball Stadium. The family pass costs just $20, and will admit up to 5 family members (or friends!).

2010 MVP Card

If you`re unable to make it to the ballpark this spring for The Showdown, then the AppleSox MVP cards will certainly be a great gift. The Most Valuable Punch cards offer 5 punches which are redeemable for a general admission ticket at the gate for any AppleSox home game in 2010. You can use one punch at 5 different games, or bring the family out to one game and use all 5 punches at once, or any combination in between! At $20 per card, you will be saving 20% over normal ticket prices! The MVP card is truly the gift that keeps on giving...show your card at the Applewood Grill in Wenatchee, or Katz Chop House in Leavenworth, and you will save 10% off your meal! MVP cards can be purchased at the Applewood Grill, Katz Chop House, and the AppleSox office.
