TAKING THE LONG WAY AROUND
At 3 hours and 42 minutes, last night’s game was the longest of the season...game two of the series outlasted the third game of the year for the AppleSox at Walla Walla (12 innings)...a 7-6 loss for the AppleSox.

SO CLOSE...
Tonight, the AppleSox have a chance to do something that they have been unable to do in their first five inaugural season series against WCL franchises...the AppleSox have gone 5-1 in season series against new members to the West Coast League five times (Corvallis, Cowlitz, Klamath Falls, Kelowna, and Kitsap)...against Corvallis, the AppleSox lost the first WCL meeting in 2005, before winning the final five on the season...versus Cowlitz, the AppleSox won the first five 2010 meetings, before falling in game six on the road, 7-1...against Kelowna, Wenatchee only lost game two of the six played in 2005...Kitsap won game five in 2005 after the AppleSox won a 16-inning marathon battle in game four, for the longest game in team history (7-6)...and Klamath Falls fended off the six-game season sweep in 2011 with an 8-5 win at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium in extra innings...the AppleSox are 0-2 in comleting the season sweep over new teams to the WCL when leading 5-0 in the season series...one loss occurred on the road (Cowlitz), the other at home (Klamath Falls).

SIMPLY SPELLACY
After giving up two runs in two thirds of an inning in his AppleSox pitchingdebut June 18, vs. Gresham, Michael Spellacy has come back to allow only four earned runs over the next 15.2 innings...that number is good for a 2.30 ERA...the two-way middle infielder has thrown the fourth-most innings of any AppleSox reliever, behind Hugh Smith, Steen Fredrickson, and Connor Leedholm.

THE HOME STRETCH...
The AppleSox now open the final 10 games of their regular season schedule, 1.5 games out of first place in the WCL North Second Half...Victoria will not play games on August 3rd and 4th, giving the AppleSox a chance to make up a half game on the HarbourCats in the standings...Wenatchee will have to fend off Bellingham, who is also 1.5 games off of first place....Bellingham leads the season series 2-1...the AppleSox finish the regular season at Bellingham Aug. 4-6, and will likely need a series win, if the rest of the playoff chase falls in the AppleSox favor.
