AppleSox Sign 14 Players To 10-Day Contracts

AppleSox head coach Mitch Darlington announced on Friday the addition of 14 players to 10-day contracts for the 2025 season. These players, in addition to previously-announced returners Reese Vassar and Brady Bean, will help provide depth in the first few weeks of the season.

Barnes is a right-handed pitcher at Spokane Community College. He earned NWAC First Team East Region honors this spring by recording a 1.40 ERA with 29 strikeouts and 11 walks over 19.1 innings in 17 relief appearances in the regular season. Barnes did not allow a run in 14 games and has not surrendered any in his last 11 outings. 

The Spokane native graduated from Mead High School in 2024. He was primarily a position player, batting .254 with four extra-base hits and 13 RBI over 39 games in two years of varsity baseball.

Dowdy is a right-handed pitcher at Yakima Valley College. He has a 3.68 ERA with 28 strikeouts and 10 walks over 36.2 innings in eight games (six starts) this spring as a redshirt freshman after missing the 2024 season. Dowdy tossed a complete game in a 3-2 win vs. Southwest Oregon Mar. 9, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out five and walking one over seven strong innings.

The Helena, Mont. native graduated from Capital High School in 2023. He played football there in addition to baseball.

Fields is a utilityman at Bellevue Community College who previously played at Tacoma Community College. He is committed to the University of Texas at Arlington this fall. Fields hit .360 with six home runs and 49 RBI in 50 regular-season games this season to earn the utility spot on the NWAC North Region First Team. He batted .274 with a home run and 18 RBI in 37 games as a freshman at Tacoma in 2023 but only appeared in eight games in 2024 before transferring.  

The Puyallup, Wash. native hit .426 in two seasons of varsity baseball at Puyallup High School, where he graduated from in 2022. Fields batted .462 with six extra-base hits and 12 RBI while also stealing nine bases in 17 games as a senior. 

Firestone is a redshirt sophomore catcher at Chabot College who previously played at Cal Poly. He hit .270 with two home runs, 12 RBI and five multi-hit games in 21 games this spring to help the Gladiators finish the season 28-14. Firestone redshirted for the Mustangs in 2023 before getting 10 at-bats in five games in 2024.

The Alameda, Calif. native spent parts of the last two summers in the California Collegiate League with the Walnut Creek Crawdads. Firestone collected seven hits in 14 at-bats in four games at the plate in 2023 while also making five appearances on the mound. He followed that up by batting .243 in 12 games in 2024.

Henkel is a catcher at Wenatchee Valley College who was just named an East Region Gold Glove recipient and Second Team member. He hit .306 with one home run and 19 RBI along with 31 walks in 40 regular-season games this spring as a sophomore. Henkel batted .287 with 16 RBI and 23 walks in 32 games as a freshman in 2024.

The Maple Valley, Wash. native graduated from Tahoma High School in 2023. Henkel hit .316 with five doubles, a home run and 20 RBI as a senior following batting .474 in 14 games in 2023 as a junior. 

Holmdahl is a first baseman at Edmonds Community College. He hit .230 with 15 RBI, 15 walks and six stolen bases over 41 games as a redshirt sophomore. Holmdahl did not play in 2024 but hit .333 with 22 RBI and 21 walks over 47 games as a freshman in 2023. 

Graduated from Glacier Peak High School in 2022. Holmdahl hit .292 with two home runs, 10 RBI and 11 hit-by-pitches over 16 games his senior year.

Johnson is a freshman left-handed pitcher at Wenatchee Valley College committed to Loyola Marymount. He recorded a 1.53 ERA with 70 strikeouts and 18 walks over 47 innings in 11 games (all starts) to earn NWAC East Region First Team honors. Johnson’s best outing came Apr. 2 vs. Yakima Valley, when he tossed a complete-game shutout with 12 strikeouts, one walk and one hit over seven innings in a 5-0 win. 

The Enumclaw, Wash. native graduated from Enumclaw High School in 2024. He recorded an 8-0 record with a 0.22 ERA, 62 strikeouts and six walks over 32.1 innings in 11 games as a senior.

King is a sophomore outfielder at Spokane Community College. He hit .258 with one home run, 24 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 47 games this regular season. King batted .330 with 11 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 35 games as a freshman in 2024.

The Spokane Valley, Wash. native graduated from University High School in 2003. In addition to baseball, King also played basketball in his prep career.

Mooney is a junior catcher at Chaminade who previously played at Wenatchee Valley College. He batted .179 with 8 RBI, 10 walks and two stolen bases over 32 games for the Silverswords this spring. Mooney hit a combined .218 with 24 RBI, 34 walks and 27 stolen bases over 67 games with the Knights over the previous two seasons. The Helena, Mont. native was awarded the NWAC East Region Gold Glove at catcher last season.

Schertenleib is an infielder at Bellevue Community College, who earned NWAC First Team North Region honors this spring. He batted .333 in the regular season with two home runs and 18 RBI in 24 games. Schertenleib hit .236 with one home run and 19 RBI in 39 games as a freshman in 2024. 

The Brewster native graduated from Brewster High School in 2023. In addition to baseball, Schertenleib also played basketball and football for the Bears. 

Schuyleman is a freshman right-handed pitcher at Wenatchee Valley College. He recorded a 4.38 ERA with 35 strikeouts and 13 walks over 51.1 innings in 11 games (six starts) in the regular season this spring. Schuyleman’s best outing came Apr. 12 when he allowed one run over five innings and struck out seven against Big Bend.

The Wenatchee native graduated from Wenatchee High School in 2024. He posted a 2.07 ERA with 42 strikeouts and 16 walks in 10 appearances last spring. Schuyleman also excelled at the plate, batting .260 with 11 RBI and four stolen bases in 20 games.

Smith is an infielder at Umpqua Community College and was named an NWAC East Region Gold Glove winner this season. He is hitting .174 through 39 games this spring with a home run and 18 RBI. Smith hit .277 with 15 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 43 games as a freshman in 2024.

The Las Vegas native graduated from Bishop Gorman High School in 2023 where he played 35 games over varsity baseball. Smith also played high school basketball in his prep career. 

Snow is a sophomore right-handed pitcher at Wenatchee Valley College. He went 7-2 with a 2.67 ERA, 50 strikeouts and 25 walks over 54 innings in 11 games (all starts) this spring. Snow tossed five-or-more innings five times and twice exceeded seven innings. He did not pitch in 2023 after posting a 2.00 ERA with 38 strikeouts and 18 walks over 45 innings in 16 relief appearances in 2023. 

The Mountlake Terrace, Wash. native graduated from Mountlake Terrace High School in 2022. Snow posted a .298 ERA over three years of varsity baseball, including recording a 1.98 ERA with 59 strikeouts and 24 walks over 57 innings in nine games. 

Sterkel is a right-handed pitcher at Wenatchee Valley College. He recorded a 3.75 ERA with 44 strikeouts and 30 walks over 48 innings in 12 games (eight starts) as a freshman in the regular season this spring. 

The Ellensburg native graduated from Ellensburg High School in 2024. He recorded a 1.24 ERA with 14 strikeouts and six walks over 17 innings in five games as a senior. Sterkel also batted .261 with two doubles and 5 RBI over nine games that season.

The AppleSox open up their 25th season May 30 when they face the Yakima Valley Pippins at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. The 2025 season consists of 30 home games and concludes in mid-August.
